The Cherokee Citizens League of Southeast Texas was established in June, 2006, in Houston, Texas, by Cherokee Citizens, registered with the Cherokee Nation, whose seat of government is in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The original name was the Cherokee At Large Voters League. The current name was established by the membership on February 2, 2013. The organization has its origin in the Cherokee Cultural Society of Houston, which was established in 1992.
