September 20, 2014, Marjorie Lowe, center, was honored as an official ELDER by the Cherokee Nation.  Left is Principal Chief Bill John Baker, and right is Dr. Wade McAlister, president of the Cherokee Citizens League of Southeast Texas. Marjorie has been very active in supporting  Cherokee activities and culture, from event planning to authentic genealogy and sharing our Cherokee history. We celebrate the contributions of all members, especially the wise Elders among us

Our condolences to the family of long time supporter of Cherokee interests William G "Bill" Johnson, who passed away December 4, 2017.  He had served on the Cherokee Nation Tribal Council from May, 2003, representing Tulsa and Washington Counties in Oklahoma. 

Bill was the father of two daughters and a son and a loving husband to his wife Joan. He was a Korean Conflict veteran.

He served as a member of the Bartlesville History Museum Trust Board and several soil conservation groups. But in May 2003, Cherokee voters helped add District 8 (Oologah) Councilor to his list of achievements, serving on all eight council committees.

In Houston we knew Bill as an avid supporter of our Cherokee organizations and a dear friend.  He is the older brother of our long time supporter and mentor Marjorie Lowe.

We remember Bill as always a friendly face whenever we gathered in Houston.
